About Shari Slonski

I am a 60yr old mother of 3 adult children and wife to my husband Ken for 39 yrs. I live in the Okanagan Valley of British Columbia, Canada. The area is well known for pristine lakes, rolling hills filled with vineyards and fruit trees and it's bountiful beaches and warm weather. A no better place to be inspired.

I work out of my home-based studio, on two acres filled with nut trees, blackberries, fruit trees, a natural spring, and pond, which overlook the valley and lake. Our property is a favorite with many wild birds especially the quail, stellar jays who steal our nuts, ravens, woodpeckers, owls, magpies, doves, hawks, vultures, yellow & red finch, chickadee and a resident family of pheasants. It's never a surprise to see deer roaming the property, raccoons, squirrels and the very odd cougar, coyote or bear.

I love spending time with my family & traveling, but more often then not, you will find me working out in the yard gardening, taking care of our little family of Nigerian Pygmy goats, or taking photos. I also spend a lot of time traveling up north in the summers to spend time with my husband who is working at a gold mine, I spend a lot of my time there taking photos.

I was born in Whitehorse, Yukon Territory of Canada. I was also married there and raised my family close to the shores of Lake LeBarge. I attended school in the Yukon as well as the Okanagan Valley of B.C.

I was fortunate enough to have attended a senior high school in the Okanagan which offered a large variety of art classes. I was exposed to many mediums. Silk screening, pottery, copper enamel jewelry making, charcoal and pastel, painting, drawing, textile work, batik, photography and so much more.

In 2003 I learned the art of lampworking which is an art of making glass beads. I began selling my beads on online to jewelry designers, bead collectors, and fabric artists, within Canada, United States and abroad. After developing some new glass techniques and bead designs I started to write lampworking tutorials which I also sold online. I then was invited to teach group classes in the United States in 2011 and 2012 in Europe. I've also taught private classes from my home studio.

In Early 2012 I started focusing more on my photography and less on my glass artwork.  I am not sure how far I will take my photography. I've only sold my creative art prints at local craft shows so far and my work has been very widely accepted and gained a lot of interest. Enjoy!
